I want a pink baby not a purple one!

Preston James Turkstra
November 19, 2011
7lbs 9oz
37 weeks and 5 days

The third week in November I had convinced myself that this baby was going to be nothing like his brother and that in fact all pregnancies are different. I had begun to plan what to take to my moms for thanksgiving and trying to figure out how in the world I would eat on thanksgiving feeling so full as it is.

November 18th I was picking up for dinner we had Meatloaf. I bent over to put the ketchup away and I felt a pop and a small trickle of water. Could that really be my water breaking? No not a chance the bending must have caused me to pee a bit. Oh but wait a minute it continued after I went to the bathroom and as I walk down the stairs in 5 minutes I had soaked my pants. My water had defiantly broken. It was a little after 7p.m. Since it was so close to bed time I called my parents and had them come get Hunter so he could get a full nights rest. I began to feel a few contractions they were very random maybe 3 contractions in a row at 4 minutes apart and then nothing for 10 or 15 minutes. I called the doctor and she said to take my time and come on in. My plan was to stay home as long as I wasn't in serious pain and I could breath and talk normal. Well the scaredy cat in me got the best of me. So as a distraction my Husband said lets pack the car and head to my work so I can finish everything up before the little man is here. So we did. He worked and I walked the parking lot. My contractions were still not regular and I was terrified that they would start pitocin right away so I walked and walked trying to keep things going. I would have done jumping jacks if my water wasn't leaking so bad ;)

We finally made it to the hospital at about 10:30p.m. I was only at 3 cm at that point so I continued to walk the halls for another 2 hours. Since my contractions were not regular enough the word pitocin was mentioned by the doctor. I wanted to do everything in my power not to have to start the pit and the evil path that it usually leads down so I began nipple stimulation. What do you know it started to help, but not soon enough at 12:30 they came in to start an IV with pitocin in it. I was now sentenced to the bed :( I put on my hypnobabies cd and got in the zone. It was a good thing too because it took 4 people and 1 hour to get the stupid IV in and by that time my contractions were strong very strong. I was to a 6. Once the pitocin started flowing at 1:30 my strong contractions became extremely strong! I had to concentrate hard to mange them. I asked for a birthing ball hoping that rocking on it would help. I sat for a few minutes and had to go the the bathroom. I never new that sitting on a toilet could feel so good. It was just the position I needed. All my up and down was making my nurse nervous, so she wanted to check again. Oh my was that extremely painful. I was still a six so she offered me stadol. At that point I was becoming frustrated and feeling trapped by the IV so I said yes. I thought maybe it would take the edge off so I could regain my focus. She came back and checked me again before she started it. Once and really? That killed I mean an awful awful pain and pressure. I was still a six so she started the stadol. she started to walk out of the room I had a contraction and I said I need to push now. I should have kept my mouth shut because he she comes to check me again!!! Dumb bitch (ok sorry I'm sure she is a very sweet lady but that was my thought at the time) I was at a 10 and ready to go. No shit Sherlock didn't I just tell her I needed to push! She ran to get the doctor and I kept pushing my poor husband thought he was going to have to grab the baby. The doctor came in and less then a minute afterward I pushed him out. And yes I finally know what a ring of fire is, not so painful just uncomfortable lets get this over with kind of thing. The placed Preston on my chest he was purple, not crying, not breathing, no heartbeat. I asked the nurse to take him now. About 20 people came running into the room and began CPR on Preston. I felt so helpless I was stuck delivering the placenta when I wanted to be by him. A million thoughts raced through my head. But my main thought was a Prayer, Please GOD let him live breath air into his tiny lungs let his heart beat. The delivering doctor tried to reassure me telling me that he doesn't have RDS he will be fine he is just feeling the affects of the stadol because it was given to you too late in labor. After the longest 5 minutes of my life they got our little fighter back. I thanked God for giving him back to us but we were still very unsure of what the minutes and hours would hold for him.

Update

I was able to get to the doctor yesterday and there was no change. Which after all these contractions was a bit disappointing no let me rephrase that, it was a big fat giant let down!! I was positive that Preston was going to arrive on Tuesday. The contractions were strong enough that they woke me up at 4 in the morning and were 4 minutes apart constantly for 6 hours until I decided to get up and move around. They returned once I got to work but I decided to ignore them. If they aren't going to do "anything" they why bother pissing me off!
But I really really need to change my attitude and I am very thankful for my March mommies to point that out. The fact that there is no change is a fabulous thing, I should be jumping up and down! It means all my sitting around "resting" and letting Chase do things is working. It means Preston is still cooking just as he should. It means I might make it until the 5th!! It means maybe just maybe I can give birth to a perfectly healthy baby boy and take him home with us right away.
No Change is a hard thing when its uncharted territory but its a good thing. Thank you Des for putting me back into my positive bubble and being my cheerleader!

My prayer today is that God helps me be patient and not get tempted by assuming Preston will be early and help me to have patients to not get overly giddy at every round of contractions.

Cheers to 40 Weeks!

Jingles Bells Jingle Bells

Jingle all the way! We have started listing to Christmas music in our house and Jingle Bells is Hunter's favorite. With all this Christmas music our thoughts have turned to other Christmas preparations. Ha who am I kidding I have been thinking about it since July! This weekend we price shopped Christmas lights and then we started to about Christmas cards. I love photo cards and with a new little one of course that is the only way to go. I turned to Shutterfly to help me out on this one. They have great products and some of my favorite Christmas cards that we received last year came from them.

So far this is my favorite card and I think its the one we will choose. You can choose your favorite here. I love that this is a 5x7 card, so it will leave a little room for us to write a little note. Did you notice the quote in the corner, only one of my favorite songs! Plus there is room for plenty of pictures of the boys and maybe room for Ginger too!

I'm also doing a Christmas Card exchange with my March Mama's group and since we talk everyday I don't necessarily need to send them a card with a note so I will probably just choose a flat photo card. This is my favorite but follow the link to find your own!

While I was browsing the Shutterfly site, which really you should stop and do, I found some wall calendars! I love making calendars for the Grandparents and they love to watch Hunter grow throughout the months.
If your still in limbo about your Christmas cards or if your a last minute planner and haven't even thought about it I highly suggest you take a look at Shutterfly's Christmas and Holiday
Card collections.

36 weeks and 1 day!

That's right I made it to 36 weeks!
I think I owe you all an update, I was hoping to have pictures but those will have to come later.
34 weeks I went to my appointment and I had been having lots of back pain and cramping. I was really trying to just tough it out but this is all I ever really felt with Hunter until a few hours before his arrival so I was a bit nervous. With Chase being out of town and me home with Hunter the Doctor decided it would be good to check me a week early. Guess what? I was dilated and starting to efface now granted this can mean nothing or it can mean babies coming. The doctor decided to play it safe, she had Chase come home and stay home and put me on moderate bed rest. This means no taking care of Hunter, no shopping, and sitting or laying in bed as much as possible. Chase did a great job taking the reins and taking care of little man. It amazes me how much those 2 have bonded in the last couple of weeks. They are thicker then thick! Hunter now crys for Daddy and not Mommy. It tugs at my heart strings and I am so happy for the two of them!!
I have had lots of contractions in the past week. Friday I was almost convinced this was our time. The contractions were 4-6 minutes apart for 2 and half hours but when I relaxed enough to fall asleep they too went away. So now we play the waiting and guessing game. Will I be as stuffed as a turkey on Thanksgiving? No one knows but we are thankful for every day this little turkey bird stays cooking.
My next appointment is with the nurse practitioner tomorrow it will be interesting to see how much progress I have made at this point it looks like I'll just be able to walk in the hospital give a push and here he is. Lol don't we all wish. Stay tuned for more updates, pictures and Holiday fun!

31 Weeks and 5 days Bare All!

My pumpkin is growing! The end is getting near! I can't believe how quickly it is going. We have the house all set to go. I made my final necessary purchase of a second baby monitor last night. The crib is up the sheets are washed the swings and bouncers are assembled. All we need now is the baby and I am more then happy to wait. Being sore and tired and sick of it is all worth it to give those little lungs more time to develop. My arms ache to hold this little man but I want to hold him without the wires and tubes and in the comfort of my own home not in a hospital.
The unknown of when this little man is coming is starting to get to me though. I am a planner and there is a big difference between 5 weeks and 8 weeks. Only time will tell!

29 Weeks

I'm 30 weeks now, sorry a bit behind on the pictures. Crazy thinking Hunter was here 7 weeks from now! My doctors appointments are now every 2 weeks and checks start at 34 weeks. I have already been having some time able contraction so I'm interested to see what the doctor says at this next appointment. Other then the contractions everything is running smoothly a little tired but who wouldn't be. Crossing my fingers that Chase will be home for good in 2 weeks so I can get a little help! I'm wishing I could be an octopus right now. I have so many project to complete but never enough hands to do them!
